After
two days the house is slowly taking shape. Things don’t seem to be moving too
quickly but a lot of preparation is going on for things that will literally come
together quickly very soon.
I’ve
never seen this type of construction before. The walls of this house are made of
styrofoam which has been reinforced with heavy gauge wire. The wall is framed
with steel beams which will be welded to the foundation and each corner as well.
The window and door frames are put into place ahead of time too.
The
whole wall is assembled on the ground and squared up. It will then be carried to
the foundation and welded into place. A cement parging will coat both sides and
the final result is quite spectacular.
The computer guys now have 8 working computers – 6
desktops & 2 laptops. The computer room is being painted and cabling will be
run tomorrow.
We’re
having a “devil of a time” with the printers and so far have not been able
to get any to work. This is because they require service from a technician after
20,000 prints have been made. The counter can only be reset by a service person!
No wonder the ink is free!
The
ladies continue to sew and I don’t know exactly the status of the uniforms
except to say that Shirley Peterson is always very happy and enthusiastic when
talking to our hosts Larry & Donna.
We
have seen little jobs here and there that need attending to and it always
surprises Larry & Donna when something gets fixed that they didn’t ask
for. Roger Keller fixed the front door knob which hasn’t worked for a long
time. It’s a good thing the door fit so tightly because the latch never came
out!
Since
we have so many people here plus the fact that some local guys are helping with
the house, we have started another project. Larry has wanted to add to the dorms
and has the space to do so. Four or five of us have been cleaning up the area
where the foundation will go and we might get a start on that too.
We went to church tonight and had a good time. Fortunately
an interpreter is there for our benefit. Paul Jolin and myself (Bruce Pellowe)
were asked to speak and give our testimony. The Bible tells us to always be
prepared to give the Word. I didn’t know I was going to speak until the pastor
called me up to the front! That was exciting though because you don’t have the
chance to plan a speech and worry about how it will go. You just speak as the
Spirit leads and all goes according to His plan – not yours!
Some
of the local kids who came around to see what we were doing.
They all wanted their picture taken and were usually
looking for a hand-out; whether it was candy or money they were not shy to ask.
