On the left is Sae and Eric waiting to push some sheeting up onto the roof. Hopefully as other jobs finish up more hands will be available to assist in delivering the roofing from its storage place out front to the final destination. There has been lots of progress with the big sheets and we're getting down to the nitty gritty details of filling in the smaller pieces and capping it all off. We're still on schedule and should be able to complete it before we leave.

IMG_1066_4_1.JPG (302505 bytes)Pictured on the left is the school at the Managua City Dump. This was to be quite an interesting trip this year because we would be getting out of the car and inter-acting with the people.

IMG_1057_2_1.JPG (224285 bytes)We were there to photograph the pre-school kids for the Sponsorship program. Eric Nowak came with me to do the "paper work" keeping track of the children's names and the file numbers of the photo so we can put them together later. Pastor Douglas was also along for the ride as was Judith, our translator.

Afterwards we walked around a bit and took a driven "tour" of the dump. This year they were burning the garbage while we were there and it was very hazy. So much so that you couldn't see more than 100 feet at times. The smell was very much stronger this year too. It's difficult to describe... not necessarily what you might expect. It wasn't a rotting, decaying smell so much; but more of the smoky burning wet ash of an extinguished camp fire along with some of the stench I'm sure you can all imagine.

IMG_1078_6_1.JPG (373456 bytes)IMG_1091_7_1.JPG (393238 bytes)This year I saw horses and cows along with all the dogs that also live here. There were more birds too - mostly vulture-looking. It was quite spectacular when a bunch of them would take off together. I also came across a baby sitting amongst all this filth waiting for his mother to finish scrounging through the newly arrived garbage trucks dumping their loads.

It will consist of a sign hanging underneath a small bicycle mounted over the doorway. John Campbell came up with the design and grabbed the welder from the back of the warehouse to assemble it.

Penny will be applying the lettering after the paint dries and then it will be hung in place. Antonio, the bike mechanic is really excited to see it taking shape and probably can't wait to have it in place.

I don't have pictures yet, but a crew has been working on a playground for the school kids and I'll have some shots of that tomorrow.

I joined the crew finishing up the dry-walling in the medical centre. Turns out they invited me to join them because of my height. Lynn says, "Bruce, how tall are you?" When I told her I was 6' 3" she said "Good, you'll be able to reach the top of the joints." It turns out the ceilings are 9 feet high. I still needed a stool to get it done!

Greg and Matt Penny and myself (Bruce Pellowe) played about seven songs for everyone. Pastor Edgard asked me to give my testimony and I trust the Lord will use it to His glory.
