The IT (Information Technology) boys had great success today! We only had five
computers running properly after two days. By the end of work today there
were 16! The problem with the sound cards has been resolved. This was
important because the main purpose of these machines is to teach English to
the children and sound is very important.
I don't know about the rest of
you but Dean & I absolutely hate the little music that plays when Windows
opens and closes. Today, though, it was music to our ears! Every time we
heard it we had confirmation that the sound card was working. We would turn
and grin at each other every time!

At
nine o'clock 250 Pastors from the area came for a monthly conference. These
are the Pastors that Robert Cousins is ministering to twice a year to give
them some deeper Bible teaching and preaching skills. Our music team was
asked to minister in song & worship to open the meeting. We sang 5 of our
favourites and I think they enjoyed Hallelujah For The Cross the most. Maybe
that's because we enjoy playing it the most.
Anne
Stewart was back in the classrooms today doing the Hokey Pokey! She's been
teaching them a number of songs with actions in them. She told me the class
was a little older and she would have to "warm them up" to the
Hokey
Pokey.
She also did some "serious" things with the kids and here she is viewing
some artwork from the previous day.
Graham
Johnson has been bouncing around fixing lawn mowers and arc welding various
things. Here he is with two mowers he got going by scavenging various parts
from other machines. The real test came when the gas can arrived and the
machines were started up. One started up first try. The other started but
was running rough. After taking the carburetor apart and cleaning it he was
successful getting it to run smoothly.
Meanwhile...
back in the Medical Center, the suspended ceiling was making good progress.
Greg and Eric have been doing very well considering the span they are crossing
and the height. Unfortunately Eric gets left by himself at times when Greg's
musical skills are required. I think Greg sends his son Aaron in to take his
place while he's away.
The doors for the examining rooms must be going well because the stack is
getting smaller every time I go by and they must be going somewhere! I just
looked around for Aletha or Roger to get an update and they've both retired
for the evening. (It's only 9:45 p.m.!)
Doug
Kirkwood and his nephew Grant Yake are still busy wiring the Medical Center
and are overcoming their own special obstacles. One of which is trying to
work around everyone else with their ladders and scaffolds. That's why Doug
is almost never around at lunch time - he gets so much done when the others guys
are eating. Maybe Doug just prefers left-overs?
His main goal is to get flourescent lighting into the large waiting area
of the Clinic.
He has also discovered that one or two fuse (breaker) boxes had no ground
connection! Probably a common occurrence down here but one we can't leave as
is, so he has run ground wires from other junction boxes to resolve it.
Later
in the afternoon there was a Youth Meeting. It was a Thanksgiving service.
Thanks was given for a young boy who almost drowned two weeks ago. It's
along story to go into here but it had a happy ending. The music team played
six or seven songs to open and three more to close.
Eric Jolin and myself gave a message to the kids. Eric spoke about the
need for salvation and I talked about how we don't know what the next day
will bring and that we need to always be ready to meet our Lord & Saviour.
At
the end of the evening there were eleven kids that accepted Christ! One of
them was Lewis, the boy who almost drowned! There were six of our team that
went up and laid hands on the teens as Pastor Edgard prayed with them and
led them in a salvation prayer. This makes the whole trip worth it - to see
the results of the World Mission Outreach Center and to know our teams that
have gone before us have all contributed to its success.

Speaking
about previous teams and their projects, here are some shots of the kids
playing on the swings and teeter-totters that were installed last year.
I
guess those cement foundations were poured well as they seem to be standing
up. I'm sure they get very heavy use every day.
I've
heard Penny enjoys gardening - maybe that's why she was detailed to trim the
grape-vine. I sure hope she finds something a little smaller when she's
cutting her wedding cake!
Some of us will be off to the Women's Prison
tomorrow and we will be giving out the toiletries that have been collected.
The music team will be doing several songs as well.
At 8 o'clock in the
morning the uniforms from Fern Hill will be presented to the school. I hope
to be able to have a few of the students try them on and get a picture for
everyone.
