Off we went to the market to buy a few souvenirs and what nots. Pictured here is Greg Penny looking at a watch. Don't worry, he didn't buy it!

IMG_9708_3_1.JPG (182221 bytes)IMG_9711_4_1.JPG (158296 bytes)Then it was off to the volcano. It was smoking a lot more than last year but didn't smell as bad. Pictured to the right are Doug and Aletha Kirkwood at the edge of the volcano.

Some of the younger ones went away up to the top of a neighbouring hill to get a better view. It was quite a climb, I'm sure they got their exercise for the day.

IMG_9731_5_1.JPG (210339 bytes)From the volcano we went to another volcano that is dormant and actually has a lake in its crater. This lake is 900 feet deep!

We all went for a swim and had lunch at a resort on this "crater lake".

As you can see there was a kayak race. pictured here is Gary Richard & Dave McGregor in the first heat. Dave won despite foul play by Gary on the turn around!

Wonderful news... Penny Southworth, who has known the Lord for 4 years decided to take this opportunity to be baptized! She announced her decision at breakfast and it was the highlight of the day. I think we were all looking forward to it as much as Penny.

IMG_9762_8_1.JPG (180904 bytes)"Deacon Dave," as we affectionately called him, read a verse from Matthew regarding the command to be baptized and Penny stated her testimony and decision and then they made their way to deeper water and under she went!

It was a joyous and memorable occasion that the whole team was present for.

All in all it was a peaceful way to end a rugged week of construction, painting, planting, lock changing, bike shop building, clothing distribution... and probably more that I'm not even aware of. I hope the team forgives me if I forgot to mention a project.

For those meeting us at the airport, the times have not changed. We are looking forward to seeing you Sunday night.

Some final pictures of the shop taken late Saturday show the final result.

IMG_9778_13_1.JPG (150336 bytes)The shop is doing very well selling and repairing bikes and Larry already has plans to "franchise" it. We all had a good laugh at that!

IMG_9486_1_1.JPG (123996 bytes)A personal note...

It has been my pleasure to build this site daily as we went. Those of you who e-mailed me were a great encouragement to the effort.

There have been an average of 140 unique hits on the site each day of the trip. The grammar mistake has been fixed, and now it's time to get cleaned up to go home.

Thanks again to all of you who supported this trip through prayer, finances and the mountains of clothes donated by friends and co-workers. It's all been worth it - every ache and scratch and all the cold showers.

                                Sincerely,
                                               Bruce Pellowe

P.S. Here is a recent picture taken by John Campbell on his visit with Larry & Donna in December 2007...
